Fun Comparisons

Isabella wailed loudly today. It was her 6 month checkup. Her wee little thighs were poked four times. The nurse doing the poking always seems to be cringing because there is not much there to poke. But we got it done. Eventually. Hudson and I were so proud of her. He whispered words of comfort into her ear and stroked her face. She loves getting her face stroked and he knows it. He cupped the curve of her tiny face in his big hands and told her that all is okay. And her gray green eyes believed him.

Some fun comparisons of the two in size the first 6 months:
Hudson at Birth: 6lbs 15 oz, 21.5 inches long and dropped down to 6 lbs (he actually dropped more than his sister comparatively and we had to syringe liquids in). My daddy holds him here.

Bella at Birth: 5lbs 3 oz and almost 18 inches long, dropped down to 4lbs 10oz
Again, held by 6'3 Grandad.

A few more newborn shots of my beautiful son:

And spicy lil' Bella's first few days here:

Huddy's One Month - He's 9lbs 14oz, 22 inches

Bella's One Month - 5lbs 11oz, 20 inches

Huddy's 2 Month - 12lbs 13 oz, 23.5 inches - Look what a month can do! El chunko!

Bella's 2 Month - 8lbs 8 oz Getting there!

Hudson at 3 months - 14 lbs! He more than doubled his birth weight already!

Bella at 3 months - just over 11 lbs

Huddy at 6 months - can't find the document but he was & still averages in the 97th percentile for height and 30th for weight.

My Bella at 6 months who is now 12lbs, 7oz & barely made the chart. Less than 3 percent for weight and maintaining a strong 20 percent for height.

Hudson's favorite meal the last 3 years has been a power breakfast - organic steel cut oats with blueberries, flax seed, bee pollen and wheat germ mixed with chocolate almond milk and Brown Cow yogurt. As for Bella, she starts solids tomorrow, some good ole organic rice cereal. Will let you know how that goes!

Bye-Bye, Onesies

Putting away my kids'clothes for good (or till whenever another comes around) is always a sad time for me. The stark reality that my kids are growing up. Some of their milestones were achieved in them, like Hudson's ratty old green shirt from a garage sale that now contains sentimental value because he first walked in it. And the cool red tennies he wore with it. Sniff....sniff

Today I packed away some preemie clothes that Isabella will never ever ever have to wear again. But I wasn't sad this time. I was rejoicing! I hope the next time I will ever have to take them out will be to give to her dolls one day for dress up. (Her doll, Olive LuLu, is currently modeling one of Bella's tops she wore the first two months of life).

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all! We finished the year off well and feel pretty well-rested. Nothing like a slow, relaxing finish! We celebrated Christmas with Jesse's family and then headed out to Colorado to be with mine. It really is a blessing to love and look forward to being with each other's families so much. Jesse's parents and grandmothers are like my own and he loves and cherishes my family like his own.

The kids had a blast. Both of them are five star travelers - not a cry from either of them on the 8 hour trip both ways. Hudson spent his time creatively in the car, listening to some fun jazz music given by his Uncle Ben and Tita Crystal, thumbing through picture books and drawing. This trip we read about three fourths from Tales of the Kingdom. If you have a 4 year old, its the perfect story-telling book. I still love reading it myself. Isabella slept or gazed out the window. Occasionally, she would stick her tongue out at Hudson. He always thought it was intentional and that made him laugh.

Success!

Little Isabella went in for her four month checkup on Wednesday. My goal was for her to double her weight by Christmas (10lbs 6 oz). She's done even better, weighing in at 11 pounds! She hasn't been a milk hoarder for nothin'! And stellar reviews on her alertness and social skills. Definitely her father's daughter.
